Orozco launches state Senate bid

Democrat Sara Orozco, a Needham psychologist and small business owner, launched her campaign to unseat state Sen. Sara Orozco (D-Needham)Scott Brown (R-Wrentham) at two campaign events this weekend, promising to address important issues facing Massachusetts.

"Individuals alone can't fix a sagging economy, out-of-control health care costs, or the need for better access to higher education," Orozco said at events at the Needham Town Common and at the Seven Arrows Farm in Attleboro. "But our state government can - and must - create a strong foundation upon which our public systems are built."

Orozco is seeking to unseat Brown, who is considered by some to be a rising star in the Massachusetts GOP. Brown has served the Norfolk, Bristol and Middlesex district since he was elected in special election in 2004. Before that, Brown served three terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Orozco is a licensed psychologist and certified business coach. She currently runs her own private practice in Needham and is CEO and founder of her own small business, Orozco and Associates, a leadership development and training consultancy.

"As a psychologist, I work with people to help them find and implement solutions to the very real troubles of their lives," she said. "I counsel people who are struggling with the pressure of illnesses, job losses, parenting, family finances, and aging parents...That is why I am running for the state senate: to work to improve those very systems that impact our lives and determine the difference between surviving and thriving in America."

Orozco also called on voters to tell her their concerns.

"Talk to me!" she said. "Share the issues that are most important to you. Let me take your voice with me to the State House...Together, let's keep the American Dream alive."
