In spite of giving large sums of money to other campaigns U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Worcester) reported $303,872.98 cash on hand for the second quarter, according to the Federal Election Commission.Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Worcester)
McGovern, who represents the Bay State's 3rd Congressional District, raked in $139,203.28 in total contributions for the quarter and has collected $863,391.82 in total contributions for this election cycle.
Midway through 2006, McGovern had just $100,438.58 cash on hand.
McGovern, who is the Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, is running unopposed this year and actually started the second quarter with more money in the bank ($456,423.43) then he ended it with. The sliding account balance was due to significant contributions he made to other congressional campaigns.
McGovern made a $1000 contribution to Don Cazayoux's successful campaign for Congress in Louisiana's 6th district. He also made $1000 contributions to Democratic congressional candidates Travis Childers in Mississippi and Joe Garcia in Florida.
On the Senate side, the Worcester Democrat gave $1000 to Jeanne Shaheen's bid for a U.S. Senate seat in New Hampshire, as well as $1000 to Tom Allen's (D-Maine) U.S. Senate campaign. He also contributed $2000 to the "Udall-Udall 2008" Political Action Committee, which funnels money to Mark Udall's campaign for the U.S. Senate in Colorado and Tom Udall's U.S. Senate campaign in New Mexico.
On top of that, McGovern also gave $230,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
