The Lowell Sun reports that a Middlesex Superior Court judge has rejected a civil rights injunction against state Sen. James Marzilli (D-Arlington) filed last month by three women he allegedly harassed and assaulted.
The legal restraining order to stiffen penalties against Marzilli from further committing already illegal acts against the women, deemed "novel" by their attorney Wendy Murphy, was denied this morning by Justice Sandra Hamlin.
Marzilli still faces four counts of annoying and accosting a member of the opposite sex, attempting to commit assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest -- all stemming from events said to have taken place on June 3.
Meanwhile the state GOP is keeping up pressure for Marzilli to be expelled from the legislature. "Today, the taxpayers of Massachusetts paid Jim Marzilli $180.10," executive director Rob Willington said in a familiar statement. They are convinced the Arlington Senator, who is not seeking re-election, is being kept on until another year of service is added to his pension, thereby increasing it, 134 days from now.
